Natural Remedies, Symptoms & Diet for ADHD & ADD
See also Homeopathy for Children class notes which includes additional homeopathic remedies for ADD/ADHD.
Attention deficit hyperactive disorder or ADHD affects children as well as adults. Symptoms include dysfunctional behaviors such as poor concentration, difficulty in school, impulsiveness, and erratic emotions.
Natural remedies help support the imbalances in the nervous system. Treatments include behavior modification, special diet, flower essences, essential oils, herbs, and other natural remedies for ADHD symptoms.
Medical treatment for ADHD often uses drugs made of stimulants that may stunt the growth of a child, exhaust the nervous system, and become addictive along with all the other side effects.
Homeopathic remedies for ADHD are more successful when used in combination with nervine herbs. Specific herbs calm overall tension.
Homeopathy for ADHD is very specific to each child; homeopathic remedies are compatible with conventional treatment. One challenge in finding the right homeopathic remedy for a specific child with ADHD is discovering the child’s personality underneath the “drug facade.” Improvement, while using homeopathy for ADHD, can still be seen while children are on medication. A second challenge is reducing drugs slowly, one at a time, under your doctor’s supervision.
Improvement in the symptoms of ADHD may be seen in minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months. You may need to try several homeopathic remedies for ADHD, maybe several at the same time, and use them for 1 to 2 months each.
Diet for ADHD
In a diet for ADHD it is helpful to change the diet for the entire family, not just the child. Refer to Dr. Christopher’s Mucusless Diet. Be prepared for resistance for the first couple of weeks and then a very pleasing improvement thereafter. Remember sugar and other carbohydrates create nervousness and instability in both children and adults. Also, a lack of good oils such as fish and flax oil or too much of rancid, bad oils, like those in French fries, can cause mental weakness and worsen the problem. In summary, avoid sugar and bad oils and make sure there are enough good oils in a healthy diet for ADHD.
Supplements are helpful when used along with the Natural Healing Protocol below. DHA – a fish oil extract, is helpful, but must be taken over a several-month period. Also use a good Vitamin B-complex that feeds the nerves.
Natural Healing Protocol: Combining supplements will do more to support your body's ability to function properly than using just one. Use the following remedies for best results -- your ability to heal will depend on the severity and length of time your symptoms have been present.
